My Process

ADDIE Instructional Design Process

ADDIE + Agile

I follow the ADDIE framework - Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation - because it works for high-stakes training where getting it wrong has real consequences. But I adapt it with agile practices: iterative drafts, regular check-ins, and flexibility to adjust as we learn more about what your organization actually needs.

Analysis & Planning

I work across the full spectrum of public safety training - from frontline operations to specialty units including canine, undercover operations, search managers, commanders, and tactical teams - partnering with subject matter experts to define what effective performance actually looks like.

  • Map operational requirements to measurable competencies and Bona Fide Occupational Requirements

  • Align training with existing Job Task Analyses and Physical Demand Analyses where applicable

  • Use researched Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes to identify learning outcomes and objectives

  • Align training with organizational, legal, and regulatory standards

What I need from you: Access to SMEs, any existing documentation (JTAs, PDAs, policies, SOPs), and clarity on who the training is for.

What you get: Documented learning outcomes and objectives, assessment strategy, and course architecture.

Design

I design training at every scale - from standalone eLearning modules to multi-week courses to complete program architectures where selection processes, foundational training, and advanced specializations function as connected pathways.

Recent work includes:

  • Western Canada's first Canine Entry Selection Competition - a 3-day, 21-event assessment built on researched competencies and BFORs

  • Leadership development courses for new sergeants

  • Blended training programs for specialized units including undercover and tactical operators

What I need from you: SME review and feedback on draft designs.

What you get: Complete training architecture showing how content connects.

Development & Production

I produce complete training packages designed for standardized delivery across your organization. Delivery formats include online, instructor-led, and blended approaches matched to content requirements and operational constraints.

Deliverables include:

  • Storyboards, scripts, facilitator guides, and learner guides

  • Competency-based assessment tools including BARS rubrics

  • Interactive digital modules built in Articulate 360 (Storyline and Rise)

What I need from you: Timely feedback on drafts, SME review for technical accuracy.

What you get: Deployment-ready materials and all source files.

Implementation Support

I support deployment through technical infrastructure and workflow integration.

Technical capabilities:

  • LMS administration training and migration consulting (Canvas, Moodle, ILIAS, CPKN portals)

  • Workflow automation using Microsoft Power Automate and SharePoint

  • Training records systems and compliance tracking

What I need from you: LMS access or a technical point of contact.

What you get: Training deployed and ready to run.

Evaluation

I design measurement systems that verify training effectiveness and support continuous improvement.

This includes:

  • Kirkpatrick-aligned evaluation frameworks

  • Competency-based assessments tied to operational standards

  • Data analysis to inform course revisions and identify ongoing performance gaps

What I need from you: Access to assessment data or performance metrics.

What you get: Evaluation report with findings and recommendations.

Timeline

Timelines depend on scope. A single eLearning module might take 4–6 weeks. A multi-course academy with selection components can take 6–12 months. I provide a realistic estimate during our initial conversation.
