Hiring & Availability

Are you available for contract work?

Yes. I take on contract work with law enforcement and public safety agencies directly. I'm currently accepting new projects.

How do I hire you?

Start by reaching out through the contact page. We'll have a conversation about what you're trying to accomplish, and I'll let you know whether I can help. If it's a good fit, I'll provide a proposal with scope, timeline, and pricing.

Do you take small projects?

Yes. I work on everything from single eLearning modules to multi-month program builds. If you're not sure whether your project is too small (or too big), just ask - I'll give you an honest answer.

Do you work with agencies directly, or through other contractors?

Both. Most of my work is directly with agencies, but I also partner with training companies and consultants who need instructional design support for their clients.

Scope and Logistics

Do you work with agencies outside Alberta?

Yes. I work remotely with agencies across Canada and beyond, and can travel for on-site work when required. Most of my collaboration with subject matter experts happens via video call, shared documents, and email.

Do you work remotely or on-site?

Both. The bulk of instructional design work - research, writing, storyboarding, development - happens remotely. I travel on-site for SME interviews, observation, facilitation, and implementation support when the project requires it.

What security clearances do you hold?

I have a clean record and verifiable background, and can obtain the security clearance level required for your project.

Can you work on sensitive or classified projects?

Yes. I have seven years of experience designing training for law enforcement operations including frontline and specialized sections. I understand operational security requirements and handle sensitive content appropriately.

Working Together

What do you need from us to get started?

A conversation about what you're trying to accomplish and why. From there, I'll typically need access to subject matter experts, any existing documentation (policies, SOPs, Job Task Analyses, current training materials), and clarity on who the training is for and what success looks like.

How much SME time will this require from our team?

It depends on the project. At minimum, I need SME availability for initial interviews and periodic review of drafts. For complex technical content, expect more involvement. I structure the process to use SME time efficiently—I come prepared with specific questions rather than open-ended sessions.

How long does a typical project take?

A single eLearning module typically takes 4–6 weeks. A multi-course academy with selection components can take 6–12 months. I provide a realistic timeline estimate after our initial conversation about scope.

How do revisions work?

I build in review cycles at each stage - you see drafts of the design, content, and assessments before anything is finalized. Feedback is incorporated as we go rather than at the end. I include a defined number of revision rounds in project scope; additional rounds can be accommodated if needed.

Do you use AI in your work?

I can work either way. Some agencies are comfortable with AI-assisted drafting; others have policies that prohibit it entirely. If your agency restricts or bans AI use, I work without it - the process takes longer, but the quality is the same. Let me know your requirements upfront and I'll scope the project accordingly.

Deliverables and Ownership

What do we get at the end of a project?

Complete, deployment-ready training materials. Depending on the project, this may include storyboards, scripts, facilitator guides, learner guides, assessment rubrics, BARS scoring tools, eLearning modules, and course architecture documentation.

Who owns the materials you create?

You do. I provide all source files so you can update, modify, and maintain the materials independently. You own the content outright.

What format will deliverables be in?

eLearning modules are typically built in Articulate 360 and exported as SCORM packages for your LMS. I will provide .story files for Storyline project.s. Written materials are delivered in editable formats (Word, PowerPoint) unless you specify otherwise. I match formats to your existing systems.

Can you work within our existing LMS?

Yes. I have experience with Canvas, Moodle, ILIAS, CPKN portals, and other platforms. If you're using something I haven't worked with before, I can learn it - LMS platforms share common structures.

Pricing

How does pricing work?

I typically price by project based on scope, complexity, and timeline. After our initial conversation, I provide a proposal with a fixed price for the defined deliverables. No surprises.

Do you charge by project or by hour?

Project-based pricing is my default - it gives you cost certainty and keeps the focus on deliverables rather than hours. For ongoing consulting or retainer arrangements, hourly or day rates may make more sense.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. I typically require a deposit to begin work, with the balance due at defined milestones or upon completion. Specific terms are outlined in the project proposal.

Confidentiality

How do you handle confidential or operationally sensitive content?

With the same care I've applied to seven years of law enforcement training development. I sign NDAs when required, store files securely, and don't share or reference client-specific content without explicit permission. The testimonials and project examples on this site have been approved for public use or anonymized.
